MG Car Club Superkhana - March 16 Results & photos

A lovely morning greeted participants in the annual MG Car Club Superkhana at the Speed Dome. We ran the long course, which was popular with all drivers - except perhaps the one who wrong-wayed... There were some exceptional performances and shows of great driving skill throughout the morning. A number of club members forsook their MGs for other high performance cars, so there was an interesting mix of vehicles participating.

We had a couple of excursions, one into the long grass beside the course, but nothing to put anyone off finishing all their runs.

Congratulations to MG Car Club member Bob Schrader whose pocket rocket Sylva Riot shows a clean pair of back tyres to all other competitors, putting down some seriously fast times to win the day. Top placed MG, skillfully driven by Tim Harland placed third. Well done to all drivers. Results appear below.

Thanks to the team of people who assisted make the event run so smoothly.

October 27 Long-Course Speed Dome Superkhana - Report, results & photos

At last summer had arrived, just in time for our October Long-Course Superkhana. We had a wonderful mix of cars entered, spanning 1960s to brand new. The French & Fantastic Automobile Association and the Beemer Club each had a few entries, which explains the high number of Renaults and BMWs this time round. We had more than the usual number of cones hit and wrong ways, but everyone got through unscathed. There was certainly some spectacular driving - both of the really fast and accurate kind, and of the drifting kind. An enormous level of skill of many drivers was witnessed. It took some drivers a couple of runs to work pout how to get the best out of their cars, with times tumbling for some. As usual, we also had a few first timers - who certainly didn't embarrass themselves.

A look at the results shows how incredibly close first and second places were, in a well-fought battle between Bruce Hawley's Nissan Skyline GTR (1st place) and David Glover's Lotus 7 Turbo. Both potent machines, extremely well driven. Andrew Mawson was not far behind in his WRX, getting his best ever result. Looking further down the list it's interesting to see the two Toyota 86 times next to each-other, and two of the Renault Meganes also one after the other. See how close the two Westfield results were...

Notable in the results is how well Jason Brotherson has his Commodore going these days. And good to see the oldest car, Rami Brass' MGB finishing in 11th place. Well driven.

Thanks to our officials on the day; Sue, Natalie, Tim, Craig and Paul and to Rubin and Benny for assisting with Scrutineering - and Ian for Results. See below for the results.

Entries are now open for our November 24th Long-Course Superkhana. We will be limiting the field to 30 cars, so ensure you get your entry in quickly... See the links above.

September 29th MG Car Club Motorplex Day

The never ending winter weather Perth has been experiencing was not kind to entrants in the MG Club's annual Kwinana Motorplex event this year. Cold, wet, windy weather is not conducive to MG enjoyment and there was many a wet driver - and official... While there were times the sky was dry, the track surface remained wet throughout the event, so at least there was consistency there for all competitors. And, they were mostly British cars in typically British weather... Nobody seemed to complain and the event went ahead without incident, with the exception of Colin Bonney suffering a broken axle in the TC off the start line on the second course. A shame to see the oldest car entered suffering an issue. There was the odd spin, but cars remained on the bitumen.

Some brilliant driving was seen, especially given the wet track conditions. Congratulations to David Glover, who has won an event here before in the dry - while he may still be siphoning water out of his turbo Clubman, he showed masterful control of the car. Well done also to the trio of V8 Triumphs which took the next places. Looking closely at the results it appears that in spite of the wet conditions, power was an important factor.

A big Thank You to the team of officials, both from AEM and the club who braved the unpleasant conditions to make the event work. Provisional results Outright and Stage by Stage appear below.

July 7 - Kwinana Superkhana - Pits & Staging Lanes - Results, report & photos

A sunny winter's morning greeted competitors for our July 7th Kwinana Superkhana. We combined the Porsche Club and WRX Club events with others and had an excellent mix of cars competing.

A big thank you to our officials: Natalie, Ian, Brock, Tim, Martin and Paul. The day ran smoothly, with only one Wrong Way and a couple of excursions onto the grass. Jamie Lister was blisteringly fast. Very impressive. With Jamie's smooth driving style, the car didn't look like it was being thrashed but you could see the speed was way ahead of anyone else on the day. In the end he finished ten seconds ahead of second place - quite an achievement. Less than half a second split second to fourth places. Allan Guelfi's Porsche 996 GT3 and Gary Jacobs' Cayman S couldn't have been much closer. Neil Richardson must be pretty chuffed to have his little turbocharged Swift up there. If not for a garage penalty on his last run, George Eames could have been right up near the top of the results, but 6th place isn't bad. Some very impressive driving was seen throughout the day.

Credit is also due to Karalyn Plummer, whose first motorsport experience was in her dad's competition prepared Porsche - certainly not an easy car to start with. Although she came last on the day, her improvement and confidence increase was very noticeable. Well done.

Photos and results below.

Don't forget our excellent Triple Treat event on September 15th - three great courses, all in one afternoon. Click here for details

Always a fantastic event, our fast, challenging course in the open area of the Pits and Staging Lanes at Kwinana has always been popular - and with good reason. We have a club event in the morning, and places open to all-comers in the afternoon session. Almost half the places are already taken, so it's first come, first served for the remaining places. Act now... We always have a fantastic variety of cars competing, novices, experts and everyone in between. See below for details of previous Kwinana Superkhana. June 16 - Speed Dome Superkhana - Results, report & photos

A beautiful, sunny winter's morning greeted competitors at our June Superkhana, held at the Speed Dome after a venue change. We ran two course with two runs at each - both long courses, one using almost the full length of the back straight, which we've only done in one previous course layout - we'll enjoyed, from the feedback. As always we had an excellent variety of cars, spanning 1964-2013, 4, 6, 8 cylinders and rotary engines, Japanese, German, French, English, Austrailan, etc. A wonderful mix of cars, including some rare machines, which always adds entertainment and interest for everyone present.

The two new, hot Renault Meganes were impressive, especially for their deep, growling engine notes. It's clear they have a ton of torque as their drovers never really seem t rev the cars to hard, but get excellent acceleration. Chris Pavy showed exceptional car control in his BMW 540, impressing everyone present. And Ben Nash's ability to swing his Mazda RX2 around - especially on his first run at the tight corner in the second course, was spectacular. Bob Schrader's MGB showed that age is no barrier (we mean the car, not the driver), putting in some very strong performances. John Webb's Porsche 911 was noteworthy too. That said, seeing the whole field compete was impressive and entertaining.

Neil Richardson went home with the trophy for the fastest single run of the day, after twelve months of headaches and heartache from his little turbocharged Suzuki - it's been hit by a truck, hit a fence, broken down, been badly repaired by companies, had failures and an endless list of problems. But when it's going properly, Neil gets results out of it that no Suzuki Swift should be capable of. Well done, also for winning the event outright. Congratulations to the other top place-getters too. Good to see nine different brands of car in the top ten places.

A big Thank You to our crew for the day: Natalie (Registration), Brock (Scrutineering), Tim (Scrutineering and Marshal), Ian (Starter, results and course set-up), Craig (Starter), Jeanette (medical), Martin (scoring) and Paul (Clerk of Course & Photographer.

Another thoroughly enjoyable Superkhana. Well done to all.

March 10 - MG Car Club Speed Dome Superkhana - Results, report & photos

While there was a threat of storms, according to the weather bureau, we had nothing but a dry day for the MG Car Club's annual Speed Dome Superkhana. Date clashes lead to a smaller field of entries than usual, but we nonetheless managed to have an interesting mix of cars competing. While we had a couple of 'offs' on the grass, with Tim Harland's MGB requiring some manpower (in pushing) to get back on the track, with no issues. The PRB Clubman of Paul Currant was not so lucky, clipping a kerb and sustaining suspension damage in a spectacular spin. Almost all drivers managed to progressively improve their times as the event progressed. Well done to the winner and place-getters. A big Thank You to the officials who helped out on the day. Results appear below.
