Museo dell'Automobile, Turin
One of the world's most spectacular automotive museums is the Museo dell Automobile in the heart of Italy's automotive centre, Turin. Created in the 1960s, a few years ago the museum was completely redone, at a cost of 40-million euros, taking four years - and the result is genuinely inspiring. The displays have been done in a creative, theatre-set style, with no rows of roped-off cars, but fascinating and insightful themed exhibitions.
This is the museum I always suggest the wives in my tours visit, and they all respond so positively to this world-class attraction. Some very famous cars are included in the museum, shown cleverly in their cultural context. There's lots about car design, manufacturing and cultural significance and influences. Most fo the ground floor is for special displays which change regularly.
The museum also houses one of the world's largest and most significant automotive libraries and archives.
